What is a Stroller Workout?

Have you had a baby and are looking for a way to get back into shape? Want to exercise but don’t have someone to take care of your baby? Can’t afford those hefty gym memberships? Well Tami Tyson has the answer for these problems and more with her Stroller Workout.

I tried Tami’s Stroller workout class and I have to say that the workout was harder than any aerobic class I have taken in a while. Moms sure know how to work out. I truly enjoyed the workout and my body reminded me of how hard I worked the next day.

The Moms, babies, and older siblings all seemed to have a great time, and got some great exercise outside in the sun. I don't have any children yet so I didn't have a weighted stroller but I got a great workout and enjoyed the company. Tami, the instructor is very friendly and teaches a great class. She checks your form and gives you an intense workout that is worth every penny.

I had the opportunity to ask Tami some questions about the Stroller Workout and would like to share her responses with you.

1. Are you trained in prenatal and postpartum fitness?
I have been training for over 17 years, and have focused mostly on women. I have been pregnant twice and have trained hundreds of pre and postnatal women. I hold three certifications and am always reading and learning more as I go.

2. What do I need to bring to class?
A mat, some water, and a smile!

3. How long are the classes?
1 hour long

4. What would I do during a regular class?
10-15 min walk/run with about 25 lunges in between
10-15 min upper body tae bo moves and abs
10-15 min walk/run with about 25 lunges in between
10-15 min Lower body (butt, thighs, hamstrings) and abs
10-15 min walk/run with about 25 lunges in between
10-15 min stretch or yoga

5. I have just had a baby, when is it safe for me to take your class?
You should really wait 6 weeks before starting any training and even then you have to be careful you feel the exercise in the right places. The muscles!

6. What happens if my baby starts crying during class?
If your baby doesn’t start crying that would be something to talk about. We are all mothers and we all understand. Some mom’s let their baby cry, others pick them up and nurse, and still others exercise holding their baby. There is no wrong thing to do. Whatever you feel comfortable doing is just perfect!

7. I gained a lot of weight during my pregnancy will the other moms stare at me?
Oh my goodness… NO! It is all about starting where you are at and improving from there.

8. How do I register?
You can call me, send me an email, or just show up on a Monday or a Wednesday at 9:30 am at Playa Vista or at 10:00 am at clover park in Santa Monica on Tuesday and Thursday. Try and come 15 minutes early if you are registering so we can finish it up before the class starts.

9. I am pregnant. Is it safe for me to take your class?
If you are past the first trimester, with no complications than it should be fine but you must listen to your body. If it says stop then STOP!

10. Do you run any specials?
Not really but if you miss a class I will let you make it up some other time. I understand how some days it is just impossible to get out of the house.

If you haven't tried a stroller workout I suggest you try one.
