Summer Skin Tips

Summer Skin Tips

The heat is on and Alice Koskas, owner of The Lounge Spa in Culver City, CA answered some questions about pregnancy and skincare to help you get through the rest of the summer.

  1. What type of skincare products should a pregnant women use during the summer?
Products that are fragrance free and have an SPF factor. During pregnancy, skin can also become worse so oil free products with bacteria killing agents, such as sulfur, hydrogen peroxide, salicylic acids will help diminish and prevent future breakouts.

  2. Does the sun cause the darkening of the skin (“pregnancy mask”) to get worse? What can they do to prevent it?
Due to hormonal changes, the pregnancy mask can become worse with sun exposure. A SPF above 15 is necessary in your make up or in a moisturizer. In Direct sun light, a UVA/UVB sun block lotion should be applied 20 minutes prior to direct exposure.

  3. Is suntan lotion okay for women to use during pregnancy?
    Yes.

  4. What other suggestions do you have for pregnant women to keep their skin looking great during the hot weather?
Avoid the sun, drink plenty of water and exercise, to avoid swelling and dehydration.

  5. What services do you offer that would be good for pregnant women during the summer? The Citrus Squeeze Facial is excellent for pregnant women who are experiencing hyperpigmentation, dehydration and loss of elasticity. This facial has a high concentration of Vitamin C, antioxidants and anti-flammatory agents to make your skin look as radiant and glowing during your pregnancy! The Shirley Temple Massage is our popular pregnancy massage for those who are experiencing aches and pains and need comfort after your first trimester.
