Winter Skincare Tips
Winter is here and so is the change in the weather. We have asked Alice Koskas,
owner of
The Lounge Spa
in Culver City, CA some questions about pregnancy and skincare during the winter
to help you look great and feel wonderful.
- What changes should be made to your skincare regime during the winter months?
It is important to continue or to start exfoliating with a granular or fruit acid
product more than 2-3 times a week. During the winter months, the skin does not
have the lubricant from perspiration or heat that the summer weather causes to effectively
remove excess dead skin cells naturally. Exfoliation provides a "healthier" cell
to accept essential hydration and nutrients from your moisturizers, resulting to
a smoother, hydrated and radiant glow.
- Is keeping hydrated just as important during the winter?
It is vital, since there is no humidity in the air and during the winter months
the heater from our cars and at our homes, causing Trans Epidermal Water Loss, a
constant evaporation of our skin's natural moisture from the environment, causing
our skin to look dehydrated, dull and lifeless.
- What are the basic products you would recommend for an expectant mom during the
winter months?
Products that contain Sodium PCA, Hyaluronic Acid and Liposomes. These products
are hydrating ingredients for the skin, and are " Hydro"- Water "Philic" -Loving
and can bind up to 1,000 times there own weight in moisture. They "HOLD" onto essential
hydration. While Liposomes are encapsulated nutrients of ingredients to further
penetrate into the skin.
- Are there additional skincare problems that expectant moms should look out for
during the winter?
Dry chapped lips are also concerns for anyone who lives in a colder climate or throughout
the year. An emulsifying lip balm with antioxidants and a SPF factor, such as Murad’s
Energizing Pomegranate Lip Therapy SPF 15 will protect your lips from the environment,
restore the suppleness, and infuse the hydration that your lips will need.
- Is sunscreen just as important during the winter?
Absolutely! Harmful UVA/UVB rays will be reflected in snow filled areas and cause
the skin hyper pigmentation, even if you’re not directly in the sun.
- Itchy skin is common in pregnancy and during the winter, what can be done to
relieve it?
Exfoliation and moisturize. Two steps that should be done, not only
for the face, but for your body. Body mass is thicker and can be susceptible to
heavier moisturizer. A loofah or a sugar scrub will help remove uneven texture of
cell buildup and improve elasticity, while a body moisturizer with ultra-rich hydrating
ingredients penetrate and leave the skin more supple and smooth.
- What products would be great to give an expectant mom for the holidays?
The Lalicious Body Butter is my favorite. A thick, whipped cream that contains Shea
Butter and Aloe. This moisturizing Body Butter does not leave your skin greasy,
but hydrating and silky smooth!
- What great services are you offering for the holiday?
With the New Year approaching our new add on service THE MORNING AFTER Eye Treatment
will be a big hit with any facial. Tired, puffy eyes with dark circles need some
relief. A pressure point eye massage followed by a professional Eye Treatment mask.
Complete with The Murad Lightening and Brightening Eye Cream, will help revitalize
and restore hydration to your eye!
